access to notes after upgrade to el capitan

Question

After upgrading to El Capitan, the Notes are no longer accessible - how do I access them?

MacBook Air, OS X El Capitan (10.11.5)

Can you explain what you mean. Or several OS's now the notes are no longer available in mail. They're in their own application called Notes.

If you are opening the notes app and you say they're not available can you explain what that means.

Notes as a seperate app in Yosemite - had several notes - post upgrade to El Capitan, open Notes and nothing is there

Do you synchronize your notes with a network service such as iCloud? If so, are they present on your other devices, or on the iCloud website?
